At our
school, Every Child Matters! This means that we want every
child to be healthy and safe and to enjoy school and
achieve to the best of their ability. We also want to make
sure that every child makes a positive contribution to the
school and local community as well as preparing for their
future economic success or well being.. We aim to maintain
and develop a caring and supportive school community which
is focused on high quality teaching and learning based on
positive relationships, high self-esteem and an
understanding of and respect for cultural and ethnic
diversity and beliefs. Our curriculum is designed to ensure
that all pupils achieve their full potential, irrespective
of gender, culture, race or ability. We became a Science
College in September 2004 and have made sure that science
permeates every area of the school!.
Our focus on
health enables us to promote careers in health as well as
healthy living for pupils, their families and the local
community. We were delighted to achieve National Healthy
Schools Status in 2007. We have also invested heavily in a
new Health Care Studies Suite that provides a base for
Health Innovation Work, Health and Social Care, Child
Development and a new parent and toddler facility from
September 2007. This will form the basis for the
establishment of a Health Village at the school with huge
opportunities for pupils, staff and the wider community.
All pupils will have Individual Health Plans to help them
track physical fitness, healthy eating and general
wellbeing. We are very proud of our generous facilities
that provide a secure, welcoming, pleasant and attractive
teaching and learning environment.
We are also
developing the full range of extended services that
includes a full programme of study support, sports and arts
activities and community provision. We have been a Leading
Edge School since September 2004 and are providing support
for four other local schools and helping them to raise
standards for different groups of pupils through shared
Academic Mentors.
As an Investor in People we are
totally committed to supporting and developing all our
staff. Our Year and School Councils and a wide range of
surveys, questionnaires and self-assessment techniques
ensure that all pupils have a real voice and can influence
how the school is run and how their learning is delivered.
The
future for Holly Lodge is both challenging and exciting! We
are in the first phase of Sandwell’s Building Schools for
the Future programme with a ‘new’ school due to be opened
in 2010. This will provide the most up-to-date teaching and
learning in a building fit for the 21st Century. If you have
any questions you would like to ask us, do not hesitate to
contact the school. You will also be most welcome to come
and see us in action.
